Social media giant, Tumblr has launched a new theme tailored specifically to meet the needs of the art world called Readymade. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Tumblr is a short-form blogging platform allowing users to seamlessly upload content to their very own microblog. Tumblr also allows you to easily follow and engage with your favorite blogs.
In Tumblr’s latest attempt to woo the art community, Readymade will have a sleek, minimalist theme for maximum customization and an uncluttered look. And Tumblr certainly did their research. Teaming up with PR powerhouse FITZ & CO, the two companies consulted with top galleries and museums including LACMA and MoMA, both of which were already Tumblr users and have made the switch to Readymade. Over the course of a year, they developed the Readymade theme and have received very positive feedback.
So, as an artist, how will Readymade improve your blogging experience?
- Show What’s Important: The clean, simple aesthetic will make your own artwork and content shine over the design and theme of the blog. Your page will never be over-designed or flashy.
- Simple Presentation: The new mode of presenting images and video is much more elegant. They now allow users to hide the messy data (like timestamps and tags) that used to appear on Tumblr images, now creating a clean, slideshow-like presentation.
- Save Money & Time: Readymade has more advanced features allowing you the option of hosting your entire website, not just your blog, through Readymade. You can create sections/tabs like a standard website. If you are paying hundreds of dollars a month having someone update your website content, this could be an excellent alternative.
- Easy Uploads: Since Tumblr was created to quickly and easily upload content to your blog, if you choose to use Readymade as your main website, you will notice that it is still extremely easy to update your content including images and video.
