‘Tis the season! For spending and over-indulging. Take advantage of the extravagant spending season and get your business in front of the consumer. Here are some marketing tips to increase traffic, engagement, and hopefully, gain new clients.
1. Holiday Gift Guides
Holiday Gift Guides are published in just about every major media outlet: blogs, websites, magazines, newspapers, even certain entertainment news shows. If you offer a service as part of your photography business (ie. events, portraits, boudoir, etc.), consider pitching your service to your favorite publications for inclusion in their holiday gift guides. Check out our post on best practices for pitching to editors to learn the do’s and don’ts of outreaching to editors. Make sure you are pitching an actual product such as a gift certificate for a boudoir photo shoot, or an exclusive package for a family portrait!
2. Promotions/Sweepstakes
Get in the holiday spirit by offering exclusive discounts and promotions on your work. Promote these offers via social media, newsletter, e-blast or mailing to ensure it gets the most eyes. It is also a great time of year for a holiday-themed sweepstakes. Social media is a great way to promote a sweepstakes and drive some new traffic to your website.
3. Change Your Profiles Pictures
Show that there is a real person behind your social media profiles by updating your profile pictures with fun holiday themed images. The personal touch will mean a lot to your followers and potential clients.
Also, consider some playful holiday-themed social media and blog posts (ie. Countdown to Christmas in Photos) that will engage your followers, put a smile on their faces, and keep them coming back for more.
4. All Inclusive
Whether you are pitching a holiday gift guide, promoting a holiday sweepstakes, or changing your social media profile images, it’s important not to alienate any followers or potential clients. Make sure your posts are inclusive of all holiday festivities and religions. Sometime, staying generic with the “holiday” or “winter” theme is the safest bet.
5. Give Back
Aligning with a charity this time of year is a great thing to do and a good PR move. Whether you promote your hands on work with a local charity, or you decide to donate a portion of sales to your favorite organization in need, these good deeds will not go unnoticed. Promote your charity alignment via social media and be sure to include this information in any pitched to editors for Holiday Gift Guides.
Happy holidays and happy marketing!
